Tiffany Box Cake

Last week, I received a request to make a Tiffany Box.  I gave my client two options in terms of the size of the cake.  She ordered the cake for a friend's combined Birthday Party and I think she wanted a cake for 8- 10 people.  The dimensions of the cake I offered her was perfect for a party of that size.

My client could choose between a rectangular cake or cube box Tiffany cake~  She chose the rectangular one.

So I started to make the cake in the specified size. This cake is covered in some awesome  rich chocolate ganache!!

I made the fondant out of a mixture of green and blue colouring. There was definitely more blue than green.

This is probably the dumb way of constructing the cake, but I basically measured each side and cut my fondant into panels, then placed them on each side of the cake! It took me ages to get the measurements correct!! >.<

I placed a thing layer of marzipan on the top, under the lid~

I think this layer of marzipan helps to make the surface of the lid smoother and also it make the cake taste extra special~

Lid on the box. OMG! I nearly had a heart attack making this because I was very anxious about how it will turn out!!

With God's blessing, my Tiffany Cake turned out perfect!!

My No Coffee or Tea Challenge!

I have been feeling quite sluggish these days even though I have my 8 hour sleeps.  So I started to take a mental note to see if there is a pattern to my tiredness and if I am getting tired from eating or drinking a particular food type.

I really don’t want to admit this, but I think coffee and tea are making me feeling this way!  Coffee and tea are my favourite drinks!!  I wake up with a coffee; I have an English Breakfast Tea for my morning tea, Japanese green tea for the arvo break and also a Lavender Earl Grey at night to help me relax.

I researched on the pH of food and drinks and I found out that black teas are acidic and coffees are really acidic. This is bad news, because apparently we should eat 80% alkaline foods and only just 20% acidic foods in order to keep a good pH balance in our body. And guess what? All the acidic foods are all the ‘good’ stuff, like French pastries, photo chips, cookies, ice-cream, even meat and fish?! And also alcohol!!

I want to try to modify my habits and see if I can feel more energised from it.
Realistically, I think if I change my diet drastically, my body will not be happy and I think I will not cope! So what I am going to do for the next couple of weeks are to just cut down if not quit my coffee and black tea intake, (apparently green tea is not so acidic).
So I am going to declare here and say I will not drink any black tea or coffee for 3 weeks!!!  I will see how I go without them until the 12th of April and see how I feel then.

I am facing a great challenge already because I am going to Melbourne this weekend and Melbourne has the best of the best coffees!!

Please wish me luck!!

A Lego Cake for my 5 year old nephew.

My nephew, Shou Yi's birthday is on the 4th of March. He is really into Lego these days so a couple of weeks ago he has hinted to me that he hope I can make him a Lego Cake!!

義的生日是34日。他最很喜歡玩樂高積木,所以他暗示我他真的希望有一個樂高的生日蛋糕。

I tried to come up with a cake that I think he will like~ and I guess I didn't disappoint him!  ^o^

我為設計了一個樂高蛋糕~ 我想沒有讓他失望
 阿姨, 保持對您的承諾 yo~~ ^.^

Happy Birthday Shou Yi!!

Hen's Party Go Wild~

Recently added:
 ~Testimonial~
“ When I came out from the room, and saw the cake on the table I was awed! It was such a wonderful surprise by my girls as the cake looked amazingly gorgeous, corseted female bodice with black detailed lacing on it which suits the occasion! We totally loved the look, and when I sank my teeth into it – it was heavenly! The icing, sugar fondant, and the perfectly moist chocolate cake – tasted really yummy altogether! Yummy both from the outlook and the taste;)

Lovely combination, colour, design & most importantly the taste & texture. Definitely will recommend to others Julie’s heart bakery’s cakes – or even buy it for myself for any events, as I’m a cake lover myself =) Thumbs up, Julie! Keep up the good work !

 Message from Julie:

Hello my wonderful supporter~~ :D
Wish you guys are well and happy~!! Thank you for reading me blog on Julie's Heart Bakery.

Last week has been a very busy week for me, because I had 2 cake projects going at the same time!
I had to personalise Lucy's Cupcakes (please refer to my previous entry) and I had this Hen's Party Celebration Cake for Jessie.

Jessie's cake is different in the sense that my client gave me a photo of a cake and asked me to replicate it.  So I did~ However, I like to put my own creativity to my work, so I designed the details of the corset a little different from the picture that was shown to me~

Drawing the lace on the corset.

Close up view of the boobies!! ~Shy~

Doesn't the pink features make the cake even more flattering?

The cake is ready for delivery.

A special message from Jessie's friend, Angie.

If you like the look of this cake, and you live in Sydney then please allow me to make a special cake for your next event!!

My prices are very reasonable and 10% of the profit goes to Watoto, which is an organisation that supports the children and women who are rescued from Kony's occupation.

Lucy's Butterfly Cupcakes

James wanted to order some cupcakes for his wify's birthday last weekend.  So a week before he wrote me an email about his ideas.  He told me that Lucy's favourite colour is pink and she likes butterflies.
So my mission was to personalise a cupcake arrangement for Lucy based around some pinky butterflies.

Initially I was experimenting with pastel colours like light blue, yellow, green and baby pink. But after a few trails, I didn't want to go with these colour combinations because it looked a bit kiddy.  After all, I want to design a cake arrangement that will appeal to someone my age!
So I decided to stick to colours with similar tones like peach, ivory and pink.
And I think it worked out well~

Cupcakes with various designs!

"Julie's cupcakes were exceedingly good. All of our friends were amazed with how intricate and detailed they were, especially the icing butterflies. The best part was how moist and tasty they were, not to mention the little melted chocolate surprise inside!! They were very good cakes and I would definitely ask Julie to make us some more for us in the future."
